 What are film transitions? 

Film transitions are a great way to guide your audience. A transition is a way that allows editors to move from one clip to another. Some examples of film transitions are crosscut, cut, cut away, and contrast cut. 

How and why are film transitions used?

Film transitions are normally show through visual transitions, but also can by conveyed with music or sound effects. Some examples of transitions that are commonly used are the straight cut, jump cut, and dissolve. The main reason why film transitions are used is to guide the audience. Transitions conveys the time, character movement, pauses, storylines, and silence of a movie. The transition between shots can determine whether people enjoy your movie or not.
