Film editing

What is film editing?

Film editing is when someone takes raw video footage and edits it to make it more visually pleasing. Film editing is one of the important parts of making a video, without it no one would watch the film. Film editing is also what allows us to have well edited T.V shows and movies.

What does a film editor do?

A film editor's job is one of the most important in film making. Over the years film editing has evolved from the cutting together of video clips to digital technology. Not only do film editors have to edit the video to the target audiences liking, but they also add their own personal creativity. It's safe to say the job of a film maker is not easy.

Here is a picture of how film editors used to edit videos.

The process of film editing

The first thing you need to know is that there are three main stages of video production. The stages are pre-production, production, and post-production. The first step to film editing is pre-production, in this stage is when the story board comes in. The storyboard is there to let the editor knows the vision for the movie. The next step is the production portion. This stage is when the editor gets all the raw footage and starts the simple editing of the film. Simple editing is when you add all the video and audio clips in order and maybe start to include transitions between them. The final step to film editing it post-production. During this stage the film editor will have most of the video editing done. The only thing left to do is minor touchups either with the video or audio.
